Firefox is now available on the iPhone

Apple users now have another choice for the browser on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. For the first time, Mozilla has released a version of its Firefox browser for iOS devices.

In a company blog post, Firefox vice president Nick Nguyen said that users will be able to use the browser's "private browsing" option - iOS 9 is required for this feature. Users can also sync their iOS app with Firefox accounts to share browsing history, tabs, passwords and bookmarks between their own devices.

Users can open multiple tabs in Firefox's new app, and the app makes it easier to navigate between them with a feature called Visual Tabs, which lays every open tab out in a grid-like format. That makes it easier to hop between them. The app also gives you access to multiple search engines at once - as well as results places such as Wikipedia and Twitter - and will also suggest search terms for you as you type.

More advanced Firefox features, such as the company's recent tracking blocker, are not a part of the mobile app. But users can block pop-up windows and easily clear cookies, browsing history and other private data. Users cannot make Firefox their default browser; Safari will be your device's browser of choice for opening links from emails and other messages. (Unless you decide jailbreak your phone, which comes with its own risks.) But you can use it as your personal go-to for browsing.
