Dist. 15 board honors sixth-grade cross-country champs

The six students who took first place in their respective divisions at Palatine Township Elementary School District 15's cross-country meet were honored by the school board Wednesday.

The meet, held at Salk Park in Rolling Meadows, drew more than 430 sixth-graders from the district's elementary schools. Runners competed in one of three divisions, depending on the size of their school.

First-place runners in the large schools division were Elizabeth C. from Stuart Paddock School and Beck S. from Hunting Ridge School.

Rylen R. from Central Road School and Braden R. from Pleasant Hill School won their races in the medium schools division.

And small schools division winners were Veronika D. from Winston Campus Elementary and Marcel R. from Marion Jordan School.

Students trained for the 1-mile race with their physical education teachers before school and during recess in the weeks leading up to the meet.

"The park was filled with excitement, and the display of teamwork by the students, parents, and teachers was amazing," said District 15 Fine Arts Coordinator Kate Arenberg.
