Winfield man gets prison time for sex assault, abuse

A Winfield man, formerly of Geneva, was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child he knew over a seven-year span, ending in August 2005.

Timothy J. Dolan, 51, pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, both felonies.

Judge John Barsanti accepted the plea in which prosecutors dismissed the most severe charge of predatory criminal sexual assault, which carries a prison term of six to 30 years without the chance of probation.

According to prosecutors, Dolan sexually assaulted and sexually abused a victim, who was less than 18, from August 1998 until August 2005 at his Geneva residence.

The criminal sexual assault charge carried a prison range of four to 15 years.

After his release from prison, Dolan must complete 30 months of specialized sex offender probation, which includes no contact with the victim, a prohibition against possessing any explicit material or visiting explicit websites, and no loitering near places frequented by minors, prosecutors said.

He also must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Under state law, Dolan must serve 85 percent of his sentence, which is about 46 months. He also gets credit for about 16 month served at the Kane County jail while the case was pending.
