It's official: These student-athletes are college-bound
Prospective collegiate student-athletes aiming to compete on campus in the 2016-17 school year got their first chance to formalize their commitments on Wednesday as the national letter of intent early signing period began.
Among the developments from Mid-Suburban League schools and St. Viator:
• Barrington's Blake Swanson signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division II baseball program at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. Barrington shortstop Jimmy Day had earlier committed to Evansville.
• Former Barrington forward Rapolas Ivanauskas, who transferred to Brewster Academy in New Hampshire prior to his senior year, signed a letter of intent to join Northwestern's men's basketball team.
• Schaumburg's Christina Candotti signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I softball program at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind.
• Schaumburg's Paige Alt signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I softball program at College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, Ga.
• Fremd's Alyssa Garcia signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I softball program at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind.
• Schaumburg's Jack Bellinger signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I baseball program at Illinois State.
• Barrington's Kirsten Jacobsen, the three-time defending state champion in the 500-yard freestyle and the state record-holder in the 200 free, has committed to a swimming future at Arizona.
• Palatine's Kristin Anderson will formalize her commitment to the Illinois women's swimming and diving team in a signing ceremony Friday at the high school.
• Fremd's Grace Tworek committed to the Harvard women's basketball program in Cambridge, Mass.
• Fremd's Erin Lenahan signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division II Maryville University women's basketball team in St. Louis, Mo.
• Fremd's Bryana Hopkins signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I Northwestern women's basketball program.
• Fremd's Brianna Lewis signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I Texas Southern women's basketball program in Houston.
• St. Viator's Ellie Meyer signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division II signed a letter of intent to join the University of St. Thomas women's volleyball program in St. Paul, Minn.
• St. Viator's Andrea Renner has committed to play hockey in the East Hockey Conference's Northeastern University program in Boston, Mass.
• St. Viator's Mike Ragauskis signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I University of Oklahoma baseball program in Norman, Okla.
• St. Viator's Jack Coney signed a letter of intent to join the NCAA Division I Purdue University baseball program.
• St. Viator's Kevin Murphy committed to play lacrosse for Division III Salisbury University in Maryland while his brother Patrick will play at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
• Rolling Meadows' Mack Galvin accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy and will be playing tennis.
