Arlington Heights police release sketch of tanning salon robber

Arlington Heights police have released a sketch of a man they said robbed the same tanning salon twice within two weeks last month.

Palm Beach Tanning Salon, 381 E. Palatine Road, was first robbed at 2:35 p.m. Oct. 17, when a man with a handgun concealed in the waistband of his pants came into the business and demanded money from the cash register, police said. The man left with less than $30 cash.

Then, at 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 31, the same man came into the salon and approached the sales counter dressed similarly to the first robbery, this time armed with a knife. Police said he ran away after stealing about $100 cash from the tanning salon.

In the second robbery, police said the man initially posed as a customer and provided the last name of "Benjamin," which the clerk could not locate in the computer system.

No one was injured in either robbery.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Arlington Heights Police Department at (847) 368-5300.
