South Barrington institution Penny Road Pub for sale

The Penny Road Pub, a South Barrington institution for food, drink and live music for more than 40 years, is for sale.

Karen Goins, of RE/MAX Unlimited Northwest, said owner Dave Sanfilippo has no intention of closing the three-level restaurant and bar which his family has owned since 1972, but the restaurant's fate will be decided by whomever buys it.

"I think it's going to be great for somebody who wants it," Goins said of the restaurant, which features a patio and outdoor beer garden in addition to frequent live music performances. "It has great potential."

The $1.1 million listing price includes the building at 545 Penny Road, which dates back to 1853, and surrounding 2.7 acres.

Goins said the buyer may also purchase some or all of the total 28 acres that Sanfilippo owns in the area. She said some of that land abuts Route 59 and would be perfect for commercial use, while the rest of the land is zoned residential.

Goins said the real estate listing went up Friday.
