Police investigate fatal shooting of 19-year-old Aurora man
Aurora police are investigating the slaying of a 19-year-old man found fatally shot on the city's near southwest side Saturday afternoon by officers responding to a report of shots fired.
Daniel Sanchez, of Aurora, was discovered laying on the ground with gunshot wounds in an industrial area in the 600 block of South Elmwood Drive at about 12:05 p.m., police said.
He was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center by Aurora paramedics and then airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to police.
Police said investigators have little to go on except for witnesses saying a vehicle was heard leaving the area at a high rate of speed just after the shots were fired. A definite motive has not been established, but evidence at the scene indicates drugs may have been involved, police said.
An autopsy is being performed on Sanchez later today at the DuPage County Coroner's office in Wheaton.
