Aurora man, 55, found dead in retention pond

Authorities say the body of a 59-year-old Aurora man was pulled from a retention pond after his vehicle went into the water.

First responders, including the Aurora Fire Department's dive team, responded to the scene shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday and searched the water for about two hours until they found the man's body. Officials then recovered the vehicle the man was believed to have been driving.

Police believe the vehicle found in the pond may have been involved in an earlier hit-and-run accident in Aurora. The police department received a call shortly after 4:15 p.m. about a car that struck three other vehicles and then traveled north toward the direction of the pond.

The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

An investigation is ongoing.
