US stocks move slightly higher in early trading

NEW YORK (AP) - Stock indexes are modestly higher in early trading as several companies turned in results that were better than investors were expecting.

CBS jumped 4 percent Wednesday after the broadcaster's profits came in well ahead of forecasts. Michael Kors Holdings rose 3 percent.

Asian markets closed higher on hopes that China's financial markets would be opened further and after Japan Post soared in its market debut.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 13 points, or 0.1 percent, to 17,929 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained two points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,111.

The Nasdaq composite climbed 15 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,159.

Bond prices didn't move much. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note held steady at 2.21 percent.
