Winston-Salem State assistant charged with assault

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - An assistant football coach at Winston-Salem State has been arrested and charged with assault.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1l3zHb9) that 34-year-old quarterback coach Jason Mai was arrested last week and charged with assault on a female.

An arrest warrant accuses Mai of grabbing a woman by both arms and pushing her into a wall.

The warrant stated that Mai and the woman lived at the same address in Winston-Salem.

Mai coached in Saturday's 32-25 double-overtime loss to Shaw. He told the newspaper that he did nothing wrong. Mai said he could not offer details.

Neither head coach Kienus Boulware nor athletic director Tonia Walker would talk about the situation.

It was not clear if Mai has an attorney. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
