Believe Project: Sign up for chance at $100 to make another life better

To our readers,

Last December we embarked on an experiment, a partnership with a woman whose avocation is paying it forward.

It was called the Believe Project. Each day that month, the Daily Herald mailed a crisp $100 bill to someone who offered a compelling proposition for how to use the money to improve the life or at least ease the suffering of someone else.

The money came from our then-anonymous benefactor. Your stories rolled in — one more compelling and heart-rending than the next. We published a new story every day.

Because there were so many meaningful entries, our benefactor was moved to double her initial contribution of $3,000.

And you got caught up in it, too. We received donations from readers totaling more than $8,000, which enabled us to extend the project through January. And February. And March. All the way to Tax Day in April.

All told, the Believe Project handed out cash to 136 people in 60 suburbs.

So let's do it again!

This time, however, we'll limit it to the 31 days of December.

Starting today, you may log on to http://events.dailyherald.com/believe-project/ and fill out an entry form.

We ask for your name, email address and home address. And you'll have as many as 150 words to tell us how you would use $100 to make someone else's life better.

We will accept entries through Nov. 23.

Should we receive any additional donations this year, we'll use them to seed the program for next year with even larger contributions.

As always, thanks for reading.
