Arlington Hts. tanning salon robbed for second time in two weeks

An Arlington Heights tanning salon on Saturday night was the victim of its second armed robbery in two weeks.

Arlington Heights police confirmed that someone armed with a knife entered Palm Beach Tan, in the 300 block of East Palatine Road, at 7:45 p.m. Saturday and fled on foot after receiving approximately $100 in cash.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic in his late twenties, 5-foot-9 tall, with a medium build, a darker complexion, dark hair and a faint mustache. He was last seen wearing a sweatshirt with a dark-colored baseball cap and jeans.

Just two weeks earlier, on the afternoon of Oct. 17, a man displaying a handgun left with $27 from the cash drawer.

There were no injuries in either robbery.

Arlington Heights police Cmdr. Richard Kappelman said the robbery was captured on an internal security camera. It has not been determined whether an external camera recorded the robber, he said.

"We are stepping up patrols in the area and trying to provide a more visible and more regular police presence," he said.
