Girls cross country: Raclawski leads Huntley to regional title

Freshman Mary Raclawski won the individual championship and led Huntley's girls cross country team to the Class 3A Hononegah regional title Saturday.

The Red Raiders scored 27 points to comfortably beat out second place Hononegah, which had 48. South Elgin came in third with 100, while Harlem, Rockford Auburn and Rockford Jefferson also qualified to next Saturday's West Aurora sectional.

Raclawski's winning time was 18:46. Other scoring Red Raiders were Kate Mitchell (3rd), Chloe Smith (4th), Lindsey Ferguson (7th) and Olivia Boncoscky (12th).

Samantha Czuprynski finished 10th to pace South Elgin. Also scoring for the Storm were Hannah Anderson (13th), Rileigh Swanson (22nd), Lindsay Alvarado (23rd) and Maggie Vickrey (32nd).

At Palatine: Crystal Lake South took the sixth and final team qualifying spot to next Saturday's Schaumburg sectional with 175 points. Scoring runners for the Gators were Caitlin Bruzzini (7th), Andie Kobrick (33rd), Kayla Ehrenhaft (42nd), Jenny Luken (46th) and Lauren Cain (47th).

Dundee-Crown qualified Sylvia Waz (10th) and Skyler Finucane (29th) as individuals while Cary-Grove's Sarah Caesar (16th) and Jacobs' Chloe Walsh (24th) will also run at Schaumburg. Barrington won the team title with 54 points while Lake Zurich's Caitlin Shepard was the individual champion.

At Kaneland: At the Class 2A Kaneland regional, Hampshire and Kaneland each qualified as teams for next Saturday's Woodstock North sectional. Hampshire finished fourth with 106 points, which were scored by Marie Mayer (10th), Sophia Oury (17th), Morgan Richert (24th), Elizabeth Evans (26th) and Shayla Sotelo (29th). Kaneland was fifth with 110 points and was led by Brianna Brower (3rd), Noelle Espino (9th), Tessa Brennan (30th), Emma Ball (32nd) and Andrea Wells (36th). Qualifying as individuals were Burlington Central's Megan Safranski (6th) and Natalia Rodriguez (34th). Vernon Hills was the team champion. Crystal Lake Central, Prairie Ridge and Sandwich also qualified as teams. Vernon Hills' Vivian Overbeck was the individual champion.

At Marist: Rosary finished fourth with 96 points to advance to next Saturday's Wheaton Academy sectional. The Royals were led by individual champion Madison Ronzone, who clocked 18:06. Also scoring were Megan Ronzone (14th), Hannah Regan (20th), Shea Vero (27th) and Brooke Delahanty (34th). Aurora Central Catholic qualified three individuals - Abby Fioresi (2nd), Karina Liz (16th) and Shannon Lo Presti (35th). Lemont won the team title with Montini, Marist, Glenbard South and Wheaton Academy also qualifying as teams.

At Winnebago: At the Class 1A Winnebago regional, Harvest Christian won the team title with 63 points, edging Rockford Christian by 3. Winnebago, Byron, Johnsburg, Durand and Harvard also qualified to next Saturday's Oregon sectional. Runners scoring for Harvest were Nygia Pollars (5th), Hannah Nelson (9th), Rachel Higbee (10th), Richter Cassidy (19th) and Kaelie Sjodin (20th). Westminster Christian qualified Sophie Danner (21st) as an individual.

At Aurora Christian: St. Edward's Megan Kremer won the individual title at the Class 1A Aurora Christian regional, advancing to next week's Lisle sectional. Kremer's winning time was 19:11. St. Edward finished third as a team to qualify as well. Following Kremer were Katie Ellsworth (8th), Katie Kremer (13th), Ashley Lopez (23rd) and Emma Jacobson (26th). Aurora Christian also qualified by finishing fourth. Leading the Eagles were Sarah Wert (10th), Carolyn Logsdon (11th), Kelly Schmieder (17th), Emily Angelo (18th) and Paris Chaney (29th).
