Founder of Gilberts football league avoids theft prosecution

GILBERTS, Ill. (AP) - A youth football league founder in northwest suburban Chicago who admitted stealing $2,250 from the organization has been granted deferred prosecution.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1KqL41o ) that 50-year-old Michael S. Curran of Gilberts must pay restitution, do 100 hours of community service, write an apology and avoid trouble for a year in an agreement with Kane County prosecutors.

He must also pay $1,432 in court costs and fines.

If Curran completes the program, charges will be dismissed. The program is available to first-time, non-violent felony offenders.

Court records show Curran billed the Gilberts youth football league $3 for "value cards" - sold as fundraisers for $10 and which offer discounts at restaurants and shops. The cost of printing was 75 cents. Curran pocketed the difference.
