Gunman holds up tanning salon

Arlington Heights police have issued an alert, asking for help in finding a man who displayed a handgun at a tanning salon and demanded money.

According to the alert, the man entered Palm Beach Tan in a shopping center on the 300 block of East Palatine Road between 1:35 and 1:45 p.m. last Saturday and lifted his sweatshirt to reveal a black handgun.

Police describe the robber as a white man, standing 5-5 and weighing 140 pounds. He has a slim build and short curly brown hair. He was last seen wearing a dark hat, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black gym shoes.

A store employee who was not on the premises at the time said Friday that the man received $27 from the cash drawer.

According to the employee, a security officer suspects the gunman is part of a trio known to cause trouble at the shopping center.
