'Back to the Future' DeLorean replica lands at Stevenson High School

In the 1989 movie "Back to the Future II," the Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2015.

Fast-forward to today, and the Cubs are trailing in the best-of-seven playoff series to the New York Mets and they face elimination.

Current events didn't affect the enthusiasm of Stevenson High School students and staff members who were treated to a visit by a replica of the DeLorean time machine made famous in the popular 1980s movies. In the movie, the characters travel to Oct. 21, 2015.

Mike Schrimmer, owner of Windy City Novelties in Vernon Hills, bought the car in 2010. His nephew, Ryan Aronoff, is a teacher at Stevenson and helped to arrange the visit. The car was not used in any of the movies.

Jim Conrey, Stevenson public information coordinator, said it was a special moment for the students.

"This is a great opportunity for our students because, my understanding and speaking to the owner of the car, this is going to be the last time he is ever going to have it out in public. He's really just doing this as a favor to his nephew, who's one of the teachers here at Stevenson," Conrey said.

Students gathered around the car during its three-hour visit at the Lincolnshire school to take selfies and explore the car's many gadgets.

Former Stevenson teacher Monica Cornille of Libertyville focused on the Cubs prediction.

"My kids always watched "Back to the Future," and so this car coming and predicting the Cubs win in 2015 would be just a great thing to happen," she said.
