Sheriff's office seeks help in finding driver in Prairie View hit-and-run

The Lake County sheriff's office is asking for the community's help in locating a driver who fled after fatally striking a 68-year-old man last week in Prairie View.

James Spicak was checking his mail near Pope Boulevard and Weiland Road around 11 p.m. Oct. 12 when he was struck and killed.

Police say the evidence suggests the vehicle might have been a pickup truck or SUV that was headed toward Weiland Road from the Horatio Gardens subdivision.

With the Cubs playing that night, police said, the driver might have been leaving a residence near the subdivision.

The Lake County sheriff's office asks that anyone with information about the hit-andrun call authorities at (847) 549-5200.
