Your health: Eat fruits, veggies to reduce cancer risk

Eat fruits, veggies to reduce cancer risk

Pink Ribbon Produce is returning to Meijer stores during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout the month of October, Meijer and various participating produce suppliers are encouraging shoppers to lower their risk of cancer through healthy eating and engaging in an active lifestyle. The campaign directly supports the research and prevention efforts of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The American Cancer Society recommends eating 2½ cups of fruits and vegetables every day to lower the risk of cancer.

Pink Ribbon Produce has made it simple for customers to do just that by developing "What's on Your Plate?" guides. Customers can easily access Meijer's guide through their phone or download it for free by visiting pinkribbonproduce.org. This resource helps shoppers actively fill half of their plate with fruits and vegetables by featuring tasty, healthy recipes.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Meijer invites its customers to follow Pink Ribbon Produce on Instagram at @pinkribbon produce. Customers can also take a picture of their fresh plate using at least one partner product and share it using the hashtag #whatsonyourplate for a chance to win a $250 Meijer gift card. The winner will also have a donation made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in his or her name.
