Police: 2 teens killed after crashing stolen van in Madison

MADISON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say two 16-year-old boys died in a high-speed crash involving a stolen vehicle in southwest Illinois.

The Belleville News -Democrat (http://bit.ly/1KcDSWn ) reports that Kyrus Sykes and Marcus Gordon, both of Granite City, and another teen were in a minivan that was reported stolen in Fairview Heights. An officer was trying to pull the van over on Illinois 203 in Madison when it sped off and crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a pickup truck.

Sykes and Gordon were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The other teen was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the pickup also was taken to a hospital, where his condition wasn't immediately known.

The crash is under investigation.
