Kyle Schwarber's home run in Game 4 of the National League division series featuring the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals was huge.
It put the Cubs ahead for good in the game, and that allowed them to clinch the series and move on to the National League championship series starting Saturday.
But the home run was also long.
So long, in fact, that the ball landed on top of the right field video board.
Now the Cubs intend to keep that ball there through the Cubs' playoff run.
So they encased it in plexiglass. Workers mounted the ball and caulked down the case to the top of the video board Wednesday.
In this video the Cubs supplied of the workers helping to immortalize the baseball, Daily Herald Sports Editor Tom Quinlan offers historical perspective.
