Disco returns in 'Evening of the Bee Gees'

Return to the disco era when "Night Fever: An Evening of the Bee Gees" comes to the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage.

Part of the college's homecoming weekend, the performance - complete with authentic costumes, vocals and staging - takes place at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at the MAC on campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

The audience is encouraged to wear '70s disco outfits and come early to participate in a costume competition in the lobby.

"Night Fever: An Evening of the Bee Gees" has been called an "amazing show" by The New York Times and "vocally superb" by the Chicago Tribune. It has been touring for more than 15 years, recreating the look and sound of the Australian/English pop band Bee Gees in venues from Disneyland to Russia.

Capturing the full history of the Bee Gees, the show features favorite songs such as "To Love Somebody" and "Holiday" from the 1967 international breakout album, "Bee Gees First." "I Got to Get A Message to You" and "I Started a Joke" from 1968's "Ideas;" "Nights on Broadway" from "Main Course" (1975); "You Should Be Dancing" from "Children of the World" (1976); "Stayin' Alive," "Night Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love" from the 1977 "Stayin' Alive" movie soundtrack; "Tragedy," "Love You Inside Out" and "Too Much Heaven" from "Spirits Have Flown" (1979), among others.

The legendary brothers will be portrayed by Toronto's Matthew Whale (Maurice Gibb), John Acosta (Barry Gibb), and Joe Varga (Robin Gibb), backed with guitar, bass, drums and keyboard.

The Bee Gees sold more than 220 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
