Palatine wraps up MSL West title

Palatine's girls volleyball team will be returning to the Mid-Suburban League championship match for the second time in four years under coach Dan Gavin.

The Pirates clinched the West title on Thursday night when they defeated host Hoffman Estates 25-8, 25-14.

Palatine (18-8, 8-0) has a three-match lead over Schaumburg (5-3) and Barrington (5-3) with two to play.

Pirates senior middle blocker Heather Holz put down 6 kills and classmate Krista Anderson added 5 against the Hawks (0-8 in the West).

Junior setter Sydney Christiansen collected 19 assists for the Pirates.

Fremd d. Schaumburg: Fremd won for the third time in its last four matches in the MSL West and its coach Curt Pinley notched career win No. 370 while directing the girls program.

The Vikings (14-8, 4-4) posted a 22-25, 25-18, 25-15 victory as Yasabel Lee put down 12 kills. Sara Ganas added 5 kills and Bailey Hooker (4).

Ganas was also 18-of-18 at the service line with 2 aces while Natalie Freund (93-of-94) set the attack with 31 assists.

Karolina Sas was 10-of-11 serve receiving for the Vikes.

Schaumburg (14-8, 5-3) was led on attack by Abbie Rahn (12 kills) while Jessica Hartzman handed out 10 assists and Jordyn Harbert 4. Lauren LaVigne collected 19 digs.

Prospect d. Wheeling: Maggie Porwit (11 kills), Kaeli Myers (5) and Brenda Kendziera (4) led the attack for visiting Prospect (17-5, 7-1), which remained 1 match behind Hersey in the MSL East.

Setter Michelle Haaning handed out 14 assists and collected 7 digs and 2 aces.

Nikki Giammarino had 19 digs and Porwit 11 while Myers and Porwit led with 3 blocks apiece against the Wildcats (5-17, 3-5).

Barrington d. Conant: Megan Talbot (9 kills), Gabby Morris (11 kills), Cecilia Stack (6 kills) and Peyton Tilly (6 kills) led the attack for visiting Barrington (7-15, 5-3) in a 25-21, 20-25, 25-20 MSL West triumph.

Anna Zawisza set the offense with 31 assists. She also served 2 aces and 5 points.

Conant (2-6, 4-16) was led by Lauren Perri (9 kills), Rachel Delanois (7) and Ayla Kljako (4). Kristina Loznjakovic handed out 22 assists and Ester Cho had 11 digs.

Rolling Meadows d. Elk Grove: Hannah Mickey and Maddie Sellergren each had 6 kills to help lead visiting Rolling Meadows to a 25-13, 25-18 MSL East victory.

Megan King (3 aces) and Megan Mich each had 5 assists for the Mustangs (17-8-1, 5-3).

Sellergren and King each had 5 digs followed by Caroline Barczak (4), Paige Connor (3) and Madeline Rebsamen (2).

Elk Grove (2-21, 0-8) was led on attack by Alex Masnica (5 kills) and Rachel Kandefer (4) while Masnica also handed out 6 assists and Mary Cronin 5.
