Children create memories with Arlington seniors

On Sept. 16, children and teachers from a Mother's Touch participated in an Alzheimer's Awareness Walk around the grounds at The Moorings of Arlington Heights retirement community.

The children made a banner displaying the organization's national slogan and visited with the residents.

A Mother's Touch, a creative learning center in Arlington Heights, has been in partnership with The Moorings of Arlington Heights since 2010.

A Mother's Touch places a high value on building bridges between home, school and community. Several recent events provided opportunities for the children at a Mother's Touch and seniors to share in creating memories and awareness.

The day care center hosted a Grandparents Day Open House Sept. 11. This is an annual tradition aimed at strengthening the intergenerational connection. Children and their families engaged in art activities, songs and stories.

Each month, children from the kindergarten classroom join residents at The Moorings for an intergenerational program, where they engage with the seniors in activities alternatively planned by A Mother's Touch and The Moorings.

By doing this, A Mother's Touch hopes to give children a sense of community by caring about all people.
