Girls volleyball: West Aurora takes UEC Valley title

Jordyn Poppen had 10 kills and 6 digs Tuesday night while Natalie Jones added 4 aces and 8 assists to lead West Aurora's girls volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-15 win over Glenbard East and the championship of the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division.

Elyssa Sanchez added 3 kills for the Blackhawks (17-5 overall) while Loren Howey had 8 digs.

Geneva d. Batavia: Grace Loberg had 10 kills and Mikayla Lanasa added 29 assists and 4 kills to lead the Vikings (21-2) to a 25-18, 25-19 Upstate Eight River win. Ally Barrett had 6 kills for Geneva with Megan Schmidt and Ally Mullen adding 5 each. Payton Bellano had 8 digs. Leading Batavia were Sydney Cavanaugh (5 kills), Jenna Garrett (10 assists, 7 digs), Katelynn Fegan (9 digs) and Sam Juarez (7 digs).

South Elgin d. East Aurora: In the UEC Valley, Rachel Priore had 10 kills and McKayla Geraghty 8 digs as South Elgin (10-9) won 25-15, 25-5.

Harvest Christian d. Westminster Christian: Amanda Cassidy (8 kills) and Candace Kaplan (15 digs, 7 aces) led the Lions (14-10, 7-0) to a 25-10, 25-14 Northeastern Athletic Conference win over Westminster (3-20, 1-7).

Bartlett d. Streamwood: Kelly Harris had 9 kills while Almira Khan added 6 aces and 19 assists to lead the Hawks (10-10-1) to a 25-14, 25-10 UEC crossover win. Andie Sobotka (14 digs), Stephanie Hornik (12 digs) and Jenna Kummerer (10 digs) led the Bartlett defense.

Wheaton Academy d. St. Edward: With 8 kills and 8 digs, Dominique Washington led St. Edward in a 23-25, 25-14, 25-19 Metro Suburban West loss. Megan Gross, Gabriella Tripicchio (11 assists) and Megan Barth each had 6 digs for the Green Wave (10-6, 5-4).

Burlington Central d. North Boone: Kendall Boron (3 kills, 3 block kills), Madison Leone (5 kills, 2 aces) and Rachel Gaydos (12 digs) led the Rockets to a 25-13, 25-12 Big Northern East win. Summer Smith (4 kills, 3 aces) and Lexi VanHiel (3 kills, 2 block kills) also contributed for BC (22-3, 9-0).

Prairie Ridge d. Hampshire: Allie Peters, Madison Kosyla and Meagen Heine had 4 digs each for Hampshire (10-15) in a 25-8, 25-10 FVC Fox loss.

Cary-Grove d. CL South: Ally Splitt (9 kills), Sarah Graham (3 aces) and Delaney Bayer (10 digs) powered the Trojans (21-4, 8-0) to a 25-14, 25-14 FVC Valley victory.
