Maybe public school teachers should reflect

As I listen to all the coverage of various teacher strikes or near strikes in many public schools this fall, I can't help but think about all the Catholic schoolteachers who go to work each day and give their all for half the pay and meager benefits.

As a recently retired teacher who taught for 26 years in a Catholic school, I know the dedication and work ethic these teachers have.

They have the same certification and education as their public school counterparts. They attend endless workshops and classes in order to stay current. They spend their own money on supplies and materials.

Most have served in their schools for many years. They are true teachers who walk into their classrooms every day in order to teach for the pure love of teaching children.

Perhaps some of the public school teachers who are so unhappy and dissatisfied in their jobs should rethink why they became teachers in the first place.
