Oct. 9 to Nov. 15: CLC's 'Recent Works' exhibit on display

The College of Lake County's 35th Annual Recent Works: A Juried Competition exhibit opens on Friday, Oct. 9. More than $1,000 in cash prizes and purchase awards will be given to artists selected for the exhibit, on view at CLC's Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art.

An opening reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 in the gallery, with refreshments and live entertainment. The exhibit will run through Nov. 15.

Selected from 140 entries, the artwork in the exhibit includes 41 pieces in various media, created by artists who live or work in Lake County. Award winners will be announced at the opening reception. Many of the artworks are for sale. The exhibit's juror is Stephany Rimland, assistant professor of art history, Harper College.

The gallery's next exhibit is China: Foreign Reality: Nov. 20 to Jan. 10, featuring works by David Bolton, Terry Dixon, Hans Habeger, Robert Lossmann, Roland Miller and Erick Rowe. The exhibit represents artwork by CLC art department faculty members who traveled to China in 2014 for a cultural exchange with several universities. It includes work created and influenced by the faculty's experiences in China, art that explores a still emerging "super nation" with both Third World and cutting-edge technologies and ancient and modern cultures. Reception: Friday, Nov. 20, 6-8 p.m.

The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art on the Grayslake Campus is located at 19351 W. Washington St. Due to construction, please park in Lot 1 on the north side of campus and enter through the Technology Building entrance (T1). The gallery is committed to displaying the works of Illinois artists and increasing the visibility of nationally known artists in Lake County.
