No injuries, but fire leaves Naperville house uninhabitable

A house in south Naperville has been deemed uninhabitable but no one was injured after a fire caused by an overheated laundry dryer, authorities said Thursday.

The fire began about 1:43 p.m. at a house on the 2800 block of Cedar Glade Drive. Occupants had left the home by the time the Naperville Fire Department arrived four minutes later, according to Bureau Chief Amy Scheller.

Firefighters put out the flames in 15 minutes, then worked to salvage and overhaul the affected area, but the house suffered "moderate smoke and fire damage," Scheller said in a news release. A Naperville building inspector deemed it uninhabitable.

Firefighters determined the fire was sparked by an overheated motor inside a laundry dryer on the second floor.

While Naperville fire and police crews were on the scene, units from the Plainfield, Lisle-Woodridge and Bolingbrook fire agencies covered other Naperville stations.
