Police: Person of interest in Grayslake-area killing found dead
A person of interest in the slaying of a woman near Grayslake was found dead Tuesday night in Chicago, authorities said.
Lake County sheriff's detectives were notified about 8 p.m. of the death of Crystal Lake resident Leo Amin, 30, whom they had labeled a person of interest in the shooting of 46-year-old Dena E. Seymour, according to a news release.
Only hours before, authorities said the public should be on the lookout for Amin, whom they considered to be armed and dangerous.
Police were dispatched about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday to a house on the 31200 block of North Alleghany Road, where Seymour was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Amin had dated Seymour, the sheriff's office revealed in a news release late Tuesday.
Amin had lived in Lake and McHenry counties and had ties to other states, according to Christopher Covelli, Lake County sheriff's office spokesman, and was last seen driving a silver or gold 2005 Nissan Altima.
Authorities' preliminary investigation found Seymour had been shot more than once.
Covelli said police were called by someone who was at the house for a morning appointment but declined to elaborate.
"It wasn't a friend but it was something routine," and not out of the ordinary, he said. The area is north of Peterson Road.
The Cook County medical examiner's office plans an autopsy on Amin on Wednesday.
An autopsy for Seymour was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Lake County coroner's office.
