Plank Road crash victim identified

A Rochelle woman was killed in a fiery two-vehicle crash in Plato Township Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A semitrailer truck was westbound on Plank Road just west of Switzer Road near Hampshire when a white Yukon SUV heading east on Plank Road crossed the centerline, Kane County Chief Deputy Thomas Bumgarner said.

“The semi tried to avoid contact and it avoided contact mostly,” he said. “The Yukon went into the ditch here, went over into the other ditch here across the roadway and then caught fire.”

Late Wednesday night, the sheriff's office identified the driver of the SUV as Faith Huml, 67, of Rochelle.

The truck driver, Paul Holcomb, 58, of Rockford, was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the sheriff's office said.

The crash closed Plank Road between Muirhead and Switzer roads for hours as police investigated. No tickets have been issued
