Ancient Oaks Foundation celebrates a year of nature preservation

Ancient Oaks Foundation recently celebrated their first year. The foundation's mission is to preserve and restore Lake Zurich's woodland and wetlands. They celebrated with a fundraising event called Monarchs & Margaritas on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Lake Zurich Village President Tom Poynton was in attendance along with dozens of others to view the live monarch display and listen to live music in a picturesque setting right on Lake Zurich. Volunteer of the Year Scott Garrison was recognized and keynote speaker Vince Mosca, who is the senior ecologist with Hey and Associates, gave an insightful speech titled "Butterflies, Bats, Booze and People."

Silent and live auction items along with raffles helped raise $3,000 for this all-volunteer organization. The funds will be used for prescribed burns, tools for volunteers and educational community programs.

Ancient Oaks Foundation's next event, a Trivia Night, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Lake Zurich Columbus Centre. Tickets go on sale in December.
