Carmel falls short against Marist

Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team met up with another tough East Suburban Catholic Conference opponent Tuesday night and fell 25-12, 25-16 to visiting Marist.

Carmel (13-6, 0-3) received 4 kills from Elizabeth Tworek, 10 assists from Grace Butler and 12 digs from Makenzie Feeney.

"Marist is dangerous and could make a deep playoff run," Carmel coach Dave Pazely said. "It's too bad they are grouped in the same sectional as Benet and Mother McAuley. And even if they win that, they could have to go through St. Francis. Those four teams are all usually deserving of a trip downstate, but the IHSA made it so only one will get to make the trip. It's too bad. That would be some great volleyball.

"As for the game, we did our best to battle with them, but couldn't side out frequently enough to keep up with them. They made minimal errors and made us pay if we didn't execute on our end. We will learn from this match and be ready for St. Viator next."

Grayslake Central d. Hampshire: Allie Daul had 6 kills, as the Rams won 25-23, 25-18 in Fox Valley Fox action.

Marie Gerbasi added 3 kills and 2 aces for Grayslake Central, while Jaqueline Hamrick also had 3 kills. Lauren LaBeck dished out 12 assists for Grayslake Central, while Morgan Anderberg notched 12 digs.
