Perfect tourney finish for host Hersey

Hersey enjoyed a stellar showing in the girls volleyball tournament it hosted Saturday, finishing a perfect 5-0 with all the victories coming in two sets.

Emma Frankiewicz had a 42-for-44 serving performance with 10 aces and also had a team-best 48 digs.

Liz Fuerst led the attack with 45 kills. Amy Morgan had 18, Zoe Strozewski had 15 and Katie Rozanski had 21.

Emma Strozewski (68 assists) and Maggie Reisel (35 assists) racked up big numbers in running Hersey's offense.

"I am very happy with the level of intensity our team maintained throughout the tournament," said Hersey coach Nancy Lill, whose team improved to 12-4. "It was a great team effort and we were in control in every set and match we played. We continue to improve and are playing very well as a team."

Morgan was 43-for-45 serving with 8 aces, and Gianna Carusiello finished 33-for-35 with 7 aces.

Rozanski (13 blocks) and Zoe Strozewski (9) led the defensive effort at the net for Hersey.

Schaumburg's only loss was to Hersey (25-14, 25-15).

Senior Abbie Rahn led the attack for the Saxons (10-6, 4-1 in the tourney) with 42 kills, followed by Mallory Gerber (19), Lexi Ross (13) and Julia Spitelli (10).

Ross led Schaumburg with 14 blocks while Morgan Sterrett had 5. Jorydn Harberts (46 assists) and Jessica Hartzman (37) set the offense.

Lauren LaVigne collected a team-high 40 digs and Rahn had 34.

St. Viator Invite: Rolling Meadows (14-6-1) took fourth place with a 3-2 record that included wins over the host Lions (26-24 25-22), Larkin (25-14 25-16) and Rock Falls (25-23 25-23). The Mustangs fell in two sets to invite champion Timothy Christian and Keith Country Day.

Megan King (48-48), Hannah Mickey (40-43, 6 aces) and Madeline Rebsamen (38-for-41, 3 aces), Maddie Sellergren (26-for-29, 4 aces) and Megan Mich (26-for-29, 1 ace) and Paige Connor (21-for-24, 2 aces) were top servers for RM.

Sellergren (25 kills), Mickey (24) and Jenny Srnak (21) led on attack while King had 38 assists and Mich 37.

St. Viator (10-5) went 3-1 and took sixth place in its 10-team invite and Elk Grove was eighth

Alyssa Forbes led the Lions attack with 46 kills, followed by Audrey Nuelle (13), Kendall Claffey (19) and Emily Hayes (11).

Ellie Meyer had 89 digs while Michaela Mueller was 346-of-357 setting for 84 assists.

Maine East Invite: Stevenson won the invite with a 5-0 record in the 16-team invite.

Senior outside hitter Emily Steininger (32 kills) and junior setter Autumn McGee (19 kills, 7 aces) helped lead Leyden (12-4) to eighth place (2-3 in tourney).

Palatine (11-4, 3-2 in tourney) took tenth place while Maine West (6-11, 1-4) was 15th.

Glenbard West Invite: Fremd took fifth place as Ysabel lee was Named to all-tournament team. The Vikings (10-6 overall) went 3-2 capped by its 25-21, 22-25, 25-23 triumph over Oswego for fifth place.

After falling twice in poll play, Prospect (7-4) came back to win its final three matches for a 3-2 record in its first tourney of the season. The Knights earned two-set wins over Streamwood, Vernon Hills and Crete -Monee.
