Many cultures come together at Mundelein's One World Festival

The Mundelein Park & Recreation District partnered with the Fremont Public Library, Mundelein Community Connection and the village of Mundelein to host the third annual One World Festival on Saturday in Kracklauer Park.

The family-friendly multicultural event featured food, dancing, arts and crafts, beer and wine from around the world.

Some of the cultures represented included Irish, Asian-Indian, Japanese, Russian and Mexican.

Organizers said the festival has grown in size and scope from previous years and is designed as a celebration of cultures from around the world. This year's event featured colorful opening and closing ceremonies, and the Kracklauer Park Gazebo was home to a series of one-hour workshops offered for kids, with projects such as African mask-making and other crafts.

The objective of the festival is to promote understanding and acceptance of different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds in a fun, educational and family-centered environment, organizers said.
