Verizon Wireless store robbed at gunpoint in St. Charles

Two men robbed a Verizon Wireless store in St. Charles at gunpoint Monday afternoon, police said.

The men entered the store, 2700 E. Main St., just after 4:30 p.m., showed a gun and then took an unknown number of cellphones from the back of the store, police said in a news release.

The men left the store through a back door. Three employees were not injured and no customers were in the store at the time.

The men are described as a black male, mid-20s, 5-feet 8-inches tall with a medium build and dreadlock-style hair with a dark hooded sweatshirt; and a black male, mid-20s, 5-feet 10-inches, thin build, short hair with a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Just prior to the robbery, police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle outside an AT&T store in the 3800 block of east Main Street. An employee there reported seeing a dark colored Dodge Durango with three occupants driving slowly by the store. That vehicle was gone by the time police arrived.

Police say they are reviewing surveillance tape from the Verizon store to see if the incidents are connected, as well as talking to police from other communities to see if the robbery is related to any other similar robberies.
