Grading the Chicago Bears

Game ball

In the final year of his contract, Matt Forte looked 29 years young. He rushed for 141 yards on 24 carries and scored the Bears' only touchdown through three quarters.

Quarterback

3 footballs

Cutler was effective most of the game at managing the offense and keeping Green Bay's off the field. But he threw 3 straight incomplete passes from the Green Bay 2 in the fourth quarter, and on the Bears' next possession he was intercepted by Clay Matthews. Ugh.

Running backs

4½ footballs

If the Bears are going to win games this season, they need to run the ball like they did Sunday. Forte sped 22 yards on his second touch and continued to run effectively. Four carries and 16 yards for the Bears' Rodgers (Jacquizz) in his Bears debut.

Offensive line

3 footballs

Kyle Long had a rough start early on in his debut at right tackle but got better. Green Bay's pass rush flushed Cutler from the pocket a few times, but overall the O-line run-blocked well (189 rushing yards, 5.7 per attempt). Two false starts for Vladimir Ducasse can't happen.

Receivers

2½ footballs

Both Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal finally were healthy enough to get on the field. Jeffery was targeted 11 times and caught 5 passes. A 24-yard TD pass to Martellus Bennett came with 34 seconds left in the game. Hey, Marquess Wilson (50-yard catch)!

Defensive line

2 footballs

The Bears' new 3-4 scheme produced no sacks and little pressure on the elusive Aaron Rodgers. The run defense didn't stand out either.

Linebackers

1½ footballs

Zero plays. Kept waiting for free-agent prize Pernell McPhee to be violent. Never happened.

Secondary

1½ footballs

See above. Even with Jordy Nelson out, Rodgers threw 3 TD passes, as corners Alan Ball and Kyle Fuller did nothing spectacular. At least rookie safety Adrian Amos didn't have any Chris Conte moments.

Special teams

3½ footballs

Robbie Gould is still Robbie Gould (field goals from 28, 50 and 44, and no misses). Pat O'Donnell boomed a 56-yarder on his only punt.

Coaching

3 footballs

With few difference-makers on their roster, the Bears were within 17-16 after three quarters. But the 3 straight passes from the Green Bay 2 in the fourth quarter were a head-scratcher, especially since Brandon Marshall isn't on this roster anymore.
