DuPage board member DiCianni will run for Congress

DuPage County Board member Pete DiCianni will announce his run for Congress this weekend, adding another Republican candidate to the race for the Northwest suburban seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth.

The former Elmhurst mayor says he'll make the announcement on his 8th District run Sunday before Elmhurst's Talkie Trot, "an event that Pete and his wife Rose started eight years ago to raise awareness and financial support for families with autism and other disabilities that effect communication," his announcement says.

DiCianni said his top priority will be a federal law that mimics one he pushed in Illinois, called Brianna's Law after his daughter, to require insurance companies to cover the treatment of autism. And DiCianni said he'll try to succeed with the support of suburban officials he's worked with during his time in local government.

"The mayors saw my bipartisan leadership," he said.

DiCianni was re-elected to the DuPage County Board last year.

Disability advocate Andrew Straw also is seeking the GOP nomination. Duckworth is running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Mark Kirk.

At least three Democrats are running hard for their party's nomination in the 8th District: Businessman Raja Krishnamoorthi, state Sen. Michael Noland and Villa Park Mayor Deborah Bullwinkel.
