Hanover Township to host senior center open house

The Hanover Township Department of Senior Services is joining with the National Institute of Senior Centers in celebrating National Senior Center Month during September. NISC is urging seniors to celebrate LIFE: Learning, Independence, Friends and Energy throughout the month.

Hanover Township will kick off its celebration of Senior Center Month on Friday, Sept. 11, with an open house at the Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, in Bartlett.

From 9 a.m.-noon, senior clubs and volunteer groups will be on-site to highlight their events and activities offered throughout the year. Senior participants will also be able to try out a variety of classes for free, such as tai chi, yoga and Pilates, Zumba and more.

"Hanover Township has a very vibrant and active community of older adults," said Hanover Township director of Senior Services Tracey Colagrossi. "This is a great opportunity for those that aren't familiar with our center, to stop by and experience firsthand all the programming available for the residents of the township aged 55 years and older."

In Fiscal Year 2015, the Township Senior Center hosted 2,459 senior programs with over 26,692 senior participants. As well as the Hanover Township senior transportation program provided over 21,273 rides.

The 2,400-square-foot center includes a computer lab, cafe, an arts and crafts room with a kiln, activity rooms for movies and exercises classes, and a library.
