Buffalo Grove's freestyle depth pays dividends against Schaumburg

Freestyle ability helped Buffalo Grove deliver a victory over visiting Schaumburg on Tuesday in Mid-Suburban League girls swimming.

Buffalo Grove's Samantha Swanson won the 50 free just ahead of teammate Alexa Jedryka, and the two reversed their 1-2 finish in the 100 free in a 131.5-51.5 decision over the Saxons.

BG also had winners in the 200 free (Diana Morosan), the 500 free (Brina Wahout) and both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Ingrid Hay was a double winner for Schaumburg, taking top honors in the 200 IM and 100 back.

Hersey d. Conant: The visiting Huskies got a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 IM from Sarah Petro, Abby Johnstone and Emma Wilcher and a 1-2 effort in diving from Madeline Bovino and Alexandra Heidrich to help pave the way to a 120-66 victory in MSL competition.

Petro also led a 1-2 finish with teammate Jane Quinn in the 500-yard freestyle.

Conant senior Sam Wooley was a double winner in the sprint freestyles, taking the 50 in 25.62 and the 100 in 57.55.

Bovino scored 219.10 in diving, and Heidrich finished at 190.60.

St. Viator splits: The Lions picked up a win and suffered a loss in the triangular meet hosted by the Lions.

St. Viator topped Trinity 114-55 and fell short against Illinois Math and Science Academy 95-71.

Event winners for St. Viator included Georgia Christy (200 free), Jackie Rose (200 IM) and the 400 freestyle relay of Maggie McDermott, Christy, Rose and Julie Warren.

Fremd d. Rolling Meadows: The visiting Vikings had double individual winners in Grace Grzybek (100 fly, 100 breast), Becca Rutkowski (200 free, 100 free) and Emily Bolger (50 free, 500 free) in a 104-70 victory over the Mustangs.

Prospect d. Hoffman Estates: Samantha Berkley won the distance freestyles and Prospect took top honors in most of the races in a 149-32 win against the Hawks.

Other individual event winners for the Knights were Abby Younger (200 IM), Gracie Dix (50 free), Abby Gonzalez (diving), Kaitlin Sattley (fly), Janae Dawson (100 free) and Megan Pfeiffer (back).

Casey Rawling was a winner for Hoffman Estates in the 100 breast (1:13.32).
