Man suffers 'potential life threatening injuries' after crash near Elburn

A 39-year-old man from Earlville, Illinois, suffered potentially life-threatening injuries Tuesday after he was ejected from his vehicle in a single-vehicle crash near Elburn, according to a Kane County Sheriff's news release.

Reese Bernier was driving his 2006 Chevrolet work truck southbound on Route 47 when, for an unknown reason, he left the roadway on the west side of the road, according to the release.

As Bernier attempted to get back on the road, his truck began to roll and he was ejected from the vehicle.

Bernier was the only person in the truck.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the call of a traffic crash on Route 47 near Kenmar Drive in unincorporated Blackberry Township at 8:04 p.m., police said.

Bernier was taken to Delnor Community Hospital where he remains Tuesday night, Kane County sheriff's Lt. Patrick Gengler said.

Sheriff's deputies and detectives are still investigating the cause of the crash. They have not yet determined if drugs, alcohol or texting were involved, according to the release.

No tickets have been issued.

Route 47 remains closed from Hughes Road to Main Street while authorities investigate the crash.
