Kane County Cougars walk off against Peoria

A wild ballgame came to a bizarre end as the Kane County Cougars (47-21, 83-53) walked off against the Peoria Chiefs (41-27, 74-62) in 10 innings on Saturday. The Cougars can break the record for wins in a half that was set by the 2001 team with 47 victories.

Peoria almost broke a 1-1 tie, which lasted for nine innings, by nearly grabbing a lead in the extra frame. With Darren Seferina at first base and 2 outs, Paul DeJong's grounder was missed by the Cougars shortstop Dawel Lugo and bounced into left field. Seferina advanced to third base on the error and attempted to give the Chiefs a lead. Left fielder Cody Regis fired the ball back to Lugo as the Cougars infielder threw home to retire Seferina at the plate, keeping the game tied.

In the bottom of the 10th, Lugo started off the frame with a walk. Michael Perez's bunt was picked up by Luis Cruz, but the throw to second base went into center field as Cruz slipped on the infield grass. As Lugo raced toward third base, Harrison Bader's throw from center field missed an infielder and Lugo charged home for the game-winning run.

Both team's offenses were shut down completely from innings two through nine.
