Big recycling event Saturday in Arlington Hts.

A recycling and shredding event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, at Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner St., Arlington Heights. Vendors will be set up in the parking lot near East Miner Street and North Douglas Avenue to collect items, including cellphones, laptops, keyboards, radios, TVs and printers, bikes, wheelchairs, hearing aids, gently used clothing, prescription drugs (no liquid or cream), books and walkers. Paper shredding services will be available courtesy of the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Event sponsors include state Sen. Matt Murphy, Palatine, and state Reps. David Harris, Arlington Heights, Tom Morrison, Palatine. A full list of accepted recyclables is at senatormattmurphy.com. Those collecting the recyclables include the Arlington Heights Lions Club, Elgin Recycling, Working Bikes and WINGS.
