Vernon Hills seeks candidates for trustee vacancy

Applicants are sought to complete the term of Vernon Hills trustee and former village clerk Jeanne Schwartz Sanders, who is moving to South Carolina. Sanders, was clerk from 1997 to 2004, when she was appointed by Mayor Roger Byrne to fill a vacancy on the village board. She was elected in 2005. The development of Gregg's Landing, expansion of Westfield Hawthorn mall, use of economic incentives to strengthen the commercial base and construction of the Victory Center senior housing were among the notable issues during Schwartz's tenure. Village residents interested in the position should email Village Manager John Kalmar at johnk@vhills.org and include a letter of interest addressed to Mayor Roger Byrne and board of trustees. They should also include a resume and contact information. The vacancy will be filled before Nov. 11.
