Everything from complex murder mysteries to the dreams of a coal miner's son will come to life on Lake County stages this fall.

Here's an overview of what local theater companies have to offer:

• Lincolnshire's Marriott Theatre is featuring the premiere of the new musical "October Sky" as a part of its fall season. The musical, based on the 1999 movie, follows the son of a coal miner and his friends as they light up the sky with homemade rockets.

Living in a small Appalachian mining town, Homer Hickman aims to not end up like the others before him.

The show is produced in association with Universal Stage Productions, which has produced "Wicked" and "Billy Elliot." "October Sky" is currently showing, and will run through Oct. 11.

• Palette, Masque, & Lyre Theatre starts the 2015-16 season with an eye-opening law drama that began on Broadway, "A Few Good Men." The show follows military lawyers who discover a conspiracy after defending two United States Marines accused of murder. The PM&L Theatre is at 877 Maine St. in Antioch. • Lake Forest's Citadel Theatre Company presents the 35th anniversary of a production that hits close to home. In "Ordinary People," a Lake Forest family loses a son and the young man's parents and younger brother struggle with his death. The show explores concepts of family and survival.

• The Kirk Players will invite viewers into a 1930s horror story with performances of "The Uninvited." Two siblings purchase a house in west England overlooking the Irish Sea. In a series of unfortunate events, it becomes apparent an evil spirit inhabits the house.

The Kirk Players perform at 19313 Forest Lane in Mundelein. The show will run at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.

• Clockwise Theatre brings an emotional drama to stage for the fall season, "The Soldier's Heart." U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Casey Johnson heads to Iraq and returns nine months later haunted by memories and paralyzed by post-traumatic stress disorder.

The show recreates her experiences in the Iraqi Conflict, dealing with controversial subject manner. No one younger than 13 will be admitted, and teenagers younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

• The Bowen Park Theatre Company will kick off its fall season with "The Guys" and "The Mercy Seat." "The Guys" follows a New York Fire Department captain in the aftermath of the events of Sept. 11, 2001. Along with a journalist, he crafts heartfelt eulogies for people lost in the tragedy.

"The Mercy Seat" features quite a different spin on the 9/11 events. Ben works at the World Trade Center, but is away with his mistress during the tragedy. He contemplates using the events to fake his death to leave his family and start a new life with his lover.

The company performs at Bowen Park, 39 Jack Benny Drive in Waukegan. "The Guys" will run 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.
