$2.5 million bail for Arlington Heights man charged with sexual abuse

A 25-year-old Arlington Heights man was ordered held on $2.5 million bail Friday on charges he sexually abused two children.

Abel Mil must post $250,000 to be released from custody. If he does, Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered him to have no contact with his accusers and no contact with anyone under age 18.

Prosecutors say the abuse occurred while the defendant was baby-sitting the children: a girl who is 8 or 9 years old and a 5-year-old boy, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Alyssa Grissom.

Mil is accused of grabbing the arm of the 8-year-old earlier this month, taking her to a bedroom and assaulting her, Grissom said. When the girl screamed, two younger boys ran into the room and yelled at Mil to stop, Grissom said.

"The defendant told the children if they told their parents, their parents would no longer love them," Grissom said.

Several weeks later, the girl told her mother what happened, Grissom said. The girl's mother had the girl examined by her pediatrician and informed police on Tuesday, Grissom said.

Mil, who authorities say has no criminal background, is also accused of molesting one of the boys, Grissom said.

Grissom said Mil called the boy a "crybaby" and told him his parents wouldn't love him if he told what happened.

If convicted of the most serious charge of predatory criminal sexual assault, Mil faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. He next appears in court on Sept. 17.
