Antioch woman charged in fatal hit-and-run

A man died early yesterday morning along Route 173 near Antioch when his motorcycle was struck by a driver who initially fled the scene but later turned herself in to Lake County Sheriff's officers, police said last night. Gregory Boyes, 50, of Antioch, was pronounced dead shortly after the crash at around 4 a.m. Around six hours later, a 34-year-old woman from unincorporated Antioch called the sheriff's office and told them she was involved in a crash with a motorcycle. Missing Algonquin dog, Wrigley, found safe after 15 days

For 12-year-old Wrigley, a Brittany spaniel/Labrador retriever mix, yesterday - National Dog Day - certainly was her day. Missing for 15 days and the object of a massive, multi-community search, Wrigley was found safe in Crystal Lake, said owner Terri Templin of Algonquin. Full story.

Kane County planning for possible state income tax shortfall

The delay or disappearance of Kane County's portion of state income tax funds pushed officials to begin planning yesterday for a possible $500,000 monthly revenue loss until state lawmakers solve the ongoing budget impasse. Police say Mt. Prospect woman walked around gates before being struck by train

A 54-year-old Mount Prospect woman walked around train crossing gates in an apparent attempt to get to the other side of the tracks before she was struck and killed by an express train Tuesday night, police said. Police said the pedestrian, identified as Doris Zell, was walking from the north side to the south side of the tracks at Emerson Street in Mount Prospect about 6:30 p.m. when she was struck by an outbound Metra train.
