District 54 to remain debt-free

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 has adopted a balanced 2015-16 budget, maintaining the district's debt-free status of nearly four years. The budget calls for $225.52 million in spending and $225.55 million in revenues, and continues the district's freeze on overall cumulative spending in supplies, purchased services and capital outlay. The only exceptions are for service costs that can't be controlled internally, such as electricity, as well as for planned textbook and technology acquisitions. Though state aid is expected to remain flat, federal aid is expected to show minor increases. Benefit costs for district employees are projected to increase by about 4 percent.
