Tax and spend will not solve problems

Mr. Raja Krishnamoorthi's Aug. 19 Guest View is a classic example of what's wrong with today's Democrat Party. It's tax and spend all over again even though we're almost $19 trillion in debt.

He thinks quality day care is expensive at $12,000 per year. For a 40 hour workweek and 50 weeks per year, that's $6 per hour. I guess he won't be voting for a $15/hour minimum wage if elected.

He told how difficult it was to be his son's caregiver when his wife had to go out of town for professional training. He's an engineer and company president and she's a professional, so his family must be doing pretty well financially.

So here's a thought, why don't you or your wife quit your job and raise your family yourself, instead of looking to lower earning tax payers to help pay for child care you can obviously afford.

He states that things like Head Start and quality day care return $8 for every $1 invested. That's another lie fostered by his likes to increase spending even more.

He believes expanding early childhood education is a good policy. All we need to do is increase our education spending. But no one can be given an education, it is something that each of us must take, must want and must work hard at achieving.

In our effort to help the poor, we are creating a permanent underclass that never needs to get a good education, has babies they can't afford, never raises their children in a stable household and is never able to get a good job.

The famed French philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville said, "The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."

Mr. Krishnamoorthi, I can't be bribed.
