Updated library highlights first day of classes at Stanton School

Respect, responsibility and safety were the words of the day as students in Fox Lake Elementary District 114 started the new school year Wednesday.

The three words are the pillars of the district's Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program or PBIS.

At Stanton School, fifth and sixth grade students toured the building throughout the day and made stops at the library, office, hallways and restrooms. The rules and expectations set for each student were presented during the tour. Seventh- and eighth-graders attended their regular classes to develop and perform skits based on the pillars.

This year, students will benefit from an update to the library that includes 30 new computers, a print station, new tables and chairs. New Chromebook computers will be rolled out in certain classes for eighth graders as well.

A day of service for the entire school body is also in the works for Friday, Sept. 25.

Stanton School Principal Jeff Sefcik said he and the staff are excited by the return of the students for the new school year.

"The thing I'm most excited about is seeing new faces, learning new names, meeting our fifth-graders and making sure that all the kids that have transferred in from different districts and different states that they feel comfortable and part of the Stanton family," Sefcik said.
