Dist. 220 board changes meeting rules

Citing a desire to allow for more in-depth conversation on big strategic issues, the Barrington Area Unit District 220 will change their meeting format.

Under the new schedule, the first of the board's two monthly meetings will start at 5:30 p.m. and be largely devoted to long-term subjects. Board President Brian Battle said they'll discuss the district's use of technology at their September meeting and their long-term facilities plans at their first October meeting.

"I think this is a great idea for the community as well," board member Angela Wilcox said. "There are many topics that are not closed session topics that the board talks about and it gives us a chance for a more in-depth discussion and a more in-depth understanding from the community as well."

The board will not vote on regular business during their new committee of the whole meetings. Board action will happen at the second meeting of the month.

The board meets on the first and third Tuesdays of every month, except January, July and August when they only meet once as a regular board. Committee of the Whole meetings start at 5:30 p.m., regular meetings will start at 7 p.m.
