WildStang hosts film on inventor who founded robotics competition
High School District 214's WildStang Robotics team will screen "Slingshot," a documentary about the life and inventions of entrepreneur Dean Kamen. The movie will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the auditorium at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, in Arlington Heights.

Kamen invented many products, including the self-injecting insulin pump, the Segway scooter and the Slingshot water purifier. Director Paul Lazarus shows Kamen's inventions and explains how he is changing the world for the better.
One of Kamen's major goals is to create more engineers and scientists to solve the world's problems. To further this cause, he developed the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition more than 25 years ago. The WildStang Robotics team participates in the FIRST Robotics Competition and has won three world championships over the last 20 years.
In the documentary, all the robotics footage was shot by WildStang alumna Kelli VanAntwerp. Many local businesses assist the WildStang team by fabricating parts and providing engineering assistance, including Motorola Solutions, Methode Electronics, Nu-Way Industries, Magnetic Inspection Laboratory and Numerical Precision.
